How did it go??
If you were at Concert for Cam last night, you know how good it was. If you couldn't make it, you missed something pretty special unfortunately. The show opened with Friends Who Care, who played a fantastic set and Seth (the drummer in the band and one of Cam's best mates) fronted to sing Georgia for Cam. It was a great start to the night and it was really cool to know Seth and Zacc, two of Cam's mates were opening this event in his name and honour and it got everyone in the right frame of mind for the night ahead. Well done boys, a great set.
Our "special guests/and others" turned up early, so they followed next. It was the band we went down to Kiama to see when we didn't want to leave the house, The Terrys. In the months leading up to this event I was told it would be Finchy (lead singer) and Salvo (Ben Salvo, rythym guitar) coming to play a small acoustic set, maybe 15 minutes. How cool would that be! Then I didn't hear from anyone for about a month and I sort of gave up on it even happening. Then a few days before the gig I got the big news, which I had to keep secret. We wanted those who came to Concert for Cam to be coming for the right reasons. On the night the entire band and entourage turned up in a mini bus. They played a full set, absolutely giving it everything, starting and finishing with Hopscotch, the song Sonia chose for her tribute to Cammy. They were amazing, not just the music they played but their willingness to engage with us on a personal level and were so good to us all. I think it really helped make the night even more special and the crowd loved it. Can't thank The Terrys enough for their effort and contribution.
Salty Season had the unenviable job of following The Terrys, but they were tight, composed and rocked the crowd. I had a good little boogie to their tunes, especially getting sweaty on their last two songs which were fast and fun. Salty Season got onboard with Concert for Cam from the start and they were there all the way through this process. They are a great bunch of guys and they have just recorded some new songs, so please go and have a listen to their music on Spotify, you won't be disappointed, and it's a great way to return the favour to them. Closing out the show, and bringing the Vlads Army to the front, were... Vlads. Cam's cousin Callum is the drummer, and with Ky, Eden and Matt doing what they do, they rocked the crowd hard and closed it with some bangers. They even got me onstage to sing Happy Birthday to Cam, which was really nice of them, and it gave me a moment to share with everyone there on the night. These guys rock hard, a great band, a great bunch of blokes, and great tunes. Check them out on Insta and give them a follow. https://www.instagram.com/vladsssssssssssss/?hl=en
So, after 4 hours of 4 bands absolutely rocking the house, the Concert for Cam had to come to a close. Judging by the feedback on the night, I think it is safe to say everyone had a really good night, better than any expectations. Also, I need to give a shout-out to Mo's Desert Clubhouse, who were really patient, fair and reasonable in everything they did for us all in the lead up to the event and on the night. I had no idea what I was doing, but with the help from the team at Mo's it was a crazy, wild, fun filled night, and hopefully we can build on it and make it an annual event.
If anyone has any photos or video of the night please message me so I can add it to the website and Facebook pages.
So an absolutely massive thanks again to Mo's Desert Clubhouse, Friends Who Care, The Terrys, Salty Season and Vlads for making it a massive night of Good Times, Great Music and Best Mates. And thank you to everyone who turned up and supported the event. It was amazing, over 150 tickets sold, we ran out of t-shirts. This event wouldn't have been the amazing success it was without all of you people, Cam's mates, family and friends and all the bands coming together to make it so special. It was a night that won't soon be forgotten and was worthy of the man it was named after, the Concert for Cam. Thank you all for being part of an amazing event in Cam's memory and honour.
