One Year On

Honoring Cameron's legacy on the first anniversary of this tragic event.

In Memory of Cameron.

One year on.

Honoring the life and legacy of Cameron on the first anniversary of the tragic event.

In Remembrance

Today, the 22nd September marks the 1 year anniversary of the "alleged" Coward Strike (blow to the head from behind and without warning) on Cameron at Burleigh.

This morning to mark the occasion, Sonia and I (with Murphy the dog in support) laid some flowers at the location where the alleged Coward Strike happened, at this time and place, exactly one year ago, at around 2:20am, the 22nd September 2024. After sitting, talking, and honouring Cameron, we then walked to the top of Burleigh Headland to watch the sunrise over the ocean. While up there, we watched the sun come up over the horizon, the sky turn from black to pink to gold, and whales played beyond the breakers with surfers and stand-up paddle boarders sharing the event.

Once the sun was shining brightly, we went back down to sit at Cammy's Tree down on the Burleigh foreshore.

We had a banner to help raise awareness, and a willingness to talk with anyone who wanted to chat with us, share their condolences, hear our story etc. There were some who didn't know about it, some who had heard about it, and some who already knew about it. While it was not an easy day, we had some good moments along the way, particularly with those who stopped to share their personal stories with us. It was sad but beautiful.

After a 14 hour day, at 4pm we packed up to go, like we have done almost weekly for the past 10 months. Today, while we sat in the CamVan having something to eat before heading home, Sonia noticed something that had always been there but we had never noticed before. Since we had arrived at 2am (to be at the location of the "alleged" assault at the time it happened), we had the best carpark directly in front of Cammy's Tree.

As we sat there this arvo after loading everything into the CamVan, having something to eat before heading home, looking through the windscreen directly across the road, Sonia noticed something. Something special. The address of the building, right across the road from Cammy's Tree, The Oceania, is number 22! Yep, directly across the road from Cammy's Tree, where our boy Cameron, Forever 22 has his new spiritual home, is a building with a big 22 on the front! Amazing, right? Co-incidence or something more?

The number of the building is 22, but that's not all. The building actually sits across a few blocks of land. On the front of the building, apart from the big 22, it actually has the full block numbers. And those numbers are The Oceania 22-28. Those are the dates that we spent with Cammy in the ICU before he passed. Cam was admitted to the GCUH Intensive Care Unit on the 22nd of September, and he passed away on the 28th. The building directly across from his tree, and we mean DIRECTLY (see photos) is number 22 (Forever 22) and is across blocks 22-28, the dates we spent with Cam in the ICU! And we only just noticed this today. On the anniversary. So, is this just a crazy co-incidence, or a sign from an angel? 🥰❤
